Ingredients:

4 cups whole-wheat flour

1/4 cup sugar

1 teaspoon salt

4 teaspoons baking powder

1/2 teaspoons baking soda

3 tablespoons melted butter

1 egg

2 cups buttermilk

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350. Mix dry ingredients together. In a separate bowl, mix buttermilk, butter and egg. Add to dry ingredients. Knead gently and pat into a 7 rounds loaf. Cut a cross about 1/4 deep across the top. Place on a greased baking pan. Bake about an hour, or until toothpick comes out clean.

This is a very heavy, but tasty and easy to make bread that will impress your friends. It's the traditional Irish bread.
